1.1 These requirements cover the following types of industrial control equipment and associated components intended for starting, stopping, regulating, controlling, or protecting electric motors or other electrical loads including refrigeration equipment:
a) Equipment incorporating static switching elements, having a-c voltage ratings above 1500 V, up to 15 kV; and
b) Equipment incorporating electro-mechanical contactors with ratings above 7200 V, up to 15 kV.
1.2 The requirements do not cover equipment consisting solely of electronic or static devices, circuits, or systems, nor do they cover electronic variable speed motor controllers (power conversion equipment).
1.3 These requirements cover equipment intended for use in ordinary locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
1.4 Fire Pump Controllers are covered by the requirements in the Standard for Fire Pump Controllers, UL 218.
1.5 These requirements do not cover the internal construction of electrical instruments (such as meters) or equipment for use in Hazardous locations as defined in the National Electrical Code.
1.6 Where noted in this Outline, requirements specified in the Standard for High Voltage Industrial Control Equipment, UL 347, fourth edition, apply to these products.
