Scope

These requirements cover portable proton exchange membrane (PEM) type fuel cell power plants, used indoors.

These requirements also cover PEM type fuel cell modules that may be incomplete in certain features and that are intended to be factory installed in complete products.

The products covered by these requirements are considered portable in that they are not intended to be permanently connected to fuel supplies, electrical power sources, electrical appliances or utilization equipment, or sources or waste handling systems for cooling. These products are not intended to be permanently installed in a fixed position. These products may include resting pads, carrying handles, casters or dollies to affect portability.

Products which are not portable may be covered as stationary products under the standard for Fuel Cell Power Plants, CSA/AM ANSI/Z21.83.

These products are intended for use in ordinary (non-hazardous) locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 (NEC).
