PORTABLE PNEUMATIC TOOLS

1 Scope

1.1 This outline of investigation applies to portable, pneumatic-powered tools. These tools are intended for connection to a compressed air power source with a maximum pressure of 200 psi and a regulator to reduce the pressure to the rated pressure of the tool.

1.2 These requirements apply to: buffers, drills, grinders, hammers, impact wrenches, nailers, nibblers, nut runners, polishers, ratchets, routers, sanders, saws, screwdrivers, shears, staplers, tappers, valve seat grinders and similar pneumatic tools.

1.3 These requirements apply to portable pneumatically powered tools that contain electrical and electronic components.

1.4 These requirements apply to accessories and attachments for use with portable pneumatic tools.

1.5 These requirements do not apply to fixed or stationary pneumatic tools, powder-actuated tools, rescue equipment, or tools powered by oxygen, combustible gas, combustible fuel or bottled gas including air.

1.6 These requirements do not apply to tools intended for use in a hazardous location as defined in the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.

1.7 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in the outline, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this outline. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this outline does not comply with this outline. Revisions of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this outline.
