SUMMARY OF TOPICS

The following changes in requirements are being proposed:

1. This proposed First Edition of the Standard for Portable Engine-Generator Assemblies, UL 2201, includes the following major changes from the Outline of Investigation, Subject 2201: a) Relocation of requirements covering protection against corrosion; b) Elimination of use of an automatic positive shutoff for fuel tanks; c) Established limits on carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations in portable generator emissions; d) Revision to the requirements for receptacles and ground fault circuit interrupter protection for proper bonding requirements of receptacles; e) Revision to the requirement for output ac overcurrent protection; f) Revision to the requirements for nonmetallic parts in contact with fuel; g) Established cold impact test requirements; h) Revision to the mechanical load test requirements; i) Revision of the Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) Evaluation and Durability Test; j) Addition of requirements for carburetor icing conditions; k) Addition of backfire test in lieu of filter element flame test; l) Addition of a performance test for measuring carbon monoxide in exhaust emissions; m) Addition of a performance test for products employing shutdown circuitry; n) Revision to the overload test for clarification; o) Removal of optional weatherization requirements; p) Miscellaneous editorial revisions such as relocating requirements throughout the standard, correcting references, and editorial clarifications
